Influenza

Influenza, better know as the flu, is a highly contaigous viral infection of the upper respiratory tract and it is highly contagious and dangerous to adults.  Some symptoms are headache, fatigue, and body aches, sometimes
a fever develops. Nausea and vomiting can occur. Influenza is rarely dangerous in healthy adults sixty years of age or younger but it does make you more likely to catch pneumonia, ear infections, and sinus trouble.  Among people sixty five years or older serious respiratory infections such as flu and pneumonia are the fifth leading cause of death, so the flu is clearly a serious infection. Anyone with a weakened immune system is subject to catching these type of disorders. These are the natural herbs that can help you to overcome or help you if you get the flu.
Herbs:
Astragalus:  (Also called Huang qi.) Acts as a tonic to protect the immune system.  Aids adrenal gland function and digestion, Increases metabolism, produces spontaneous sweating, promotes healing, provides energy to combat fatigue. Increases stamina. Good for colds, flu, and also effective for chronic lung weakness. Caution: Should not be taken if fever is present.
Catnip:  Controls fever (catnip tea enemas reduce fever very quickly), Aids digestion and sleep, relieves stress,, stimulates the appetite, good for anxiety, colds and flu, inflammation, pain and stress.
Echinacea:  Stimulates certain white blood cells and has anti inflammatory and antiviral properties, good for colds, flu, and boosts the immune system. Good for most infections. Caution:  Should be used with caution by people who are allergic to ragweed or to plants in the sunflower family.  Should not be taken for prolonged periods by people with auto-immune disorders, as it stimulates the immune system.
Ginger:  Cleanses the colon and stimulates circulation, good for cramps, useful for bowel disorders, fever, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting. Caution: Not recommended for people who take anticoagulants or have galls stones.  Not recommended for extended use during pregnancy.
Fenugreek:  Acts like a laxative, reduces fever, Helps asthma and sinus problems, and also good for lung disorders. Helps break up phlegm and mucus.
Peppermint: For flavor and helps open the passage ways.
If you can take cayenne pepper it helps to keep the mucus flowing aiding in preventing congestion and headaches.  Simply add a pinch or two to soups and other foods.
For Cough and sore throat, mix 1 tablespoon of slippery elm bark powder with 1 cup of boiling water
and 1/2 cup of honey.  Take 1 teaspoon of this mixture every three to four hours.  You can drink it hot or
cold.
Recommendations:
Consume plenty of fluids, especially fruit juices, herbal teas, soups, and good water (distilled) to prevent dehydration.  Consume hot chicken soup or turkey soup.  Add a bit of cayenne pepper to help break up congestion.  Sleep as much as possible.
Directions:  Use 1 teabag per cup of water, place glass container into microwave and let cook for 3 minutes. (Never use Teflon or aluminum, it is believed to cause Alzheimer's disease). Let steep for 4-5 minutes, if using bulk tea strain thru strainer or paper towel. Also you can use coffee maker, it takes a little longer but does a good job extracting the properties from the tea.   I personally like the strainer because you get some of the small sediments, which are full of medicinal properties.  Garnish with lemon, honey or whatever you like.  I use Stevia (All natural sweetner) it works well (Diabetics can also use Splenda or Stevia). Note:  After drinking this detoxifying tea you will probably notice that your sweat will smell stronger, your stools sometimes are darker, and also your urine, don’t be alarmed this is normal. This only lets you know that it is working well.  Enjoy your tea and also the cleansing of your body.
